Come out and enjoy an evening of poetry and music in downtown Wake Forest! The Neck of the Woods Performance Series is proud to announce its next show on July 14, 2012. The show is from 7:00pm to about 10:00pm upstairs at the Wake Forest Coffee Co. Neck of the Woods is a performance event that features the work of local artists. Shows include a variety of performers such as actors, dancers, musicians, singers, writers, comedians, etc. This month we are happy to feature writer J. C. Kuehn Miller, classical guitarist Paul Taylor, poet/singer-songwriter Derek Van Sickle and some 12-string blues by Mark Luxenberg. Please come a little early so that you will have time to grab a delicious beverage and settle in to enjoy the show. This is a free event, however a $5 donation for the artists is suggested.

J. C. Kuehn Miller is a North Carolina writer. Author of “The Morocco Years”, “Into the Orchard”, and “Entirely About Edamame;” he is currently working on his next book “Meatprops” while working in and supporting local Wake Forest businesses.
Paul Taylor: Paul is a classical guitarist at the age of 19. He was born and raised here in NC. He is currently stays in Rolesville with his father while he attends school. Paul first began playing the guitar when he was 8. Though he has never taken formal lessons, he has been fortunate enough to have had many teachers in the forms of musician friends and online resources. When he first began playing the guitar, he played rock and blues. Over the past several years, as his confidence in his playing grew and his tastes broadened, Paul has developed an interest in jazz, tech metal, and classical music, the latter of which he is eager to try his hand at performing tonight!
Derek Van Sickle: Derek has lived in North Carolina since 1996. He is married and a father of one girl. Derek enjoys reading, writing, playing guitar, gardening, and walking around the historic areas of Wake Forest. He is a vegetarian and animal lover and has five dogs. Derek most enjoys reading anything that is spiritually based. Eric Butterworth and Og Mandino are currently two of his favorite authors. He finds that living a simple life is one of the keys to health and happiness. He cherishes all experience as learning through living with an open and honest mind.
Update July 6: Mark Luxenberg. Mark has been singing, writing and performing music since the age of 5. Performing solo and with bands throughout his career he has performed and written all genres of music, from Beethoven to Al Jolson, to Les Paul to Jimmy Hendrix. Tonight’s performance will be all original material presenting a style of music he calls 12 string blues. Mark’s philosophy of music and the arts is that he can see sound and hear images. “We are all artists inside, it is who chooses to express it.”
