Sunday Update, II: It has been decided to go on with the concert at Joyner park, as originally planned, at 3:30 pm. We hope to see you there, and keep in mind the cool weather when deciding what to wear!
Sunday Update: The weather is not cooperating for this afternoon’s concert, so it has been moved to the alternate site at Flaherty Park Community Center Gymnasium, 1226 N. White St. The setting will not be as idyllic, but the music will be just as good!
For almost 40 years, Roy Book Binder has traveled the world as a “keeper of the flame” and ambassador of the blues. He learned from blues musicians Reverend Gary Davis and North Carolina’s own Pink Anderson This concert will cap off the third annual installment of “Wake Forest Unplugged…Get Connected” at E. Carroll Joyner Park.
Prior to the concert, the Wake Forest Recreation Advisory Board will offer area residents the opportunity to participate in a slew of organized games and activities as part of “Wake Forest Unplugged…Get Connected.” This free, family-friendly event offers Wake Forest-area residents a unique opportunity to “disconnect” from their cell phones, computers, and other electronic devices and “reconnect” with their community, friends, and family by engaging in healthier, more active pursuits.
The performance is scheduled from 3:30 – 5:15 p.m., but area residents are encouraged to arrive early, bring a picnic lunch, and take part in an array of planned games and activities, including sack and relay races, egg toss, corn hole, and hula hoop, scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. You’re also invited to bring a kite to fly and/or take a stroll along any of the park’s numerous trails.
In the event of rain, the concert will be moved inside the Flaherty Community Center Gymnasium, 1226 N. White St. Weather-related updates will be available by calling the Wake Forest Weather Line at 919-435-9569.
