Come out on October 13th for an evening of music and movement. Neck of the Woods is happy to welcome back dancer Claire Constantikes with Movement artist Matt Davis, actress Rachel Pottern joined by actor Spencer Nunn, and Wake Forest band Velvet Goldfish! The show is free to all, but we do suggest a $5 per person donation to support these great artists and their work. As usual, the performance is held upstairs at The Wake Forest Coffee Co. Please come a few minutes early so that you won’t miss any of these talented performers.
The Neck of the Woods Performance Series is a variety art show featuring the work of local performing artists. Claire the Destroyer
Claire Constantikes signed up to take a ballet when she was five years old, but never took class because on the very first day she got scared away by the studio owner’s extremely affectionate St. Bernard who greeted her at the door. Twenty five years later she finally stepped foot in a ballet class and quickly learned that she was not very good at it. This was fortunate because it left her with little choice but to find ways of moving that are unique to her aesthetic sensibilities and compatible with the swarthy Mediterranean stock whence she comes. Claire studied dance in New York City and in 1999 she earned her MFA in dance and choreography from Temple University in Philadelphia. In 2006 she moved to Wake Forest, where she lives with her husband, Scott, and her two boys, George and Forrest. Claire founded the Neck of the Woods Performance Series in 2010 and a year later she stepped down from her post as artistic director so that she could tend to family obligations. The future of Neck of the Woods was uncertain — until Cora Hemphill came to the rescue. Many thanks, Cora, for keeping this thing alive and kicking.
Velvet Goldfish (VG3): VG3 is a local Wake Forest band composed of Jeanna Jinks (vocals/flute), Larry Gronmeyer (vocals/acoustic guitar) and Scott Hull (percussion). VG3 was born of necessity for playing small or intimate venues. The full band (Velvet Goldfish) adds a bass player and lead guitar player. Award-winning water colorist (www.jinksstudio.com) and engineers by day, this group of 40-somethings enjoy putting their own spin on music from their youth to today. Rachel Pottern–Rachel is thrilled to be performing with the Neck of the Woods performing group again after reading her short story in August. She loves theater in all its applications, from musicals to straight plays, and will be seen this December in Vance-Granville Community College Drama’s production of Almost, Maine. In addition to pursuing her transfer degree from VGCC, Rachel works on the awesome barista squad of the Wake Forest Coffee Company, enjoys reading obscure literature, singing loudly in the car, and correcting peoples’ grammar and spelling.
