Wake Forest will be celebrating the re-opening of S. White Street with a Mardi Gras party on Saturday, February 9 from 11 am-4 pm. There will be a number of contests:
Mardi Gras Costume Contest
Children ages 12 and younger are invited to participate in the Mardi Gras Costume Contest and Children’s Parade. Flex your creative muscles and dress up in your best Mardi Gras garb or take advantage of the free face painting that will be offered in the town hall lobby. Costume judging will take place at 12:30 p.m. at the flagpoles in Centennial Plaza, in front of Town Hall, 301 S. Brooks St. during the festival. The winners will serve as the grand marshals of the Mardi Gras Children’s Parade at 1 p.m. and may have the opportunity to ride in a horse and carriage at the head of the parade. The lineup for children that want to participate in the parade begins at 12:45 p.m. in Centennial Plaza. The parade begins at 1 p.m. Participation is free and no pre-registration is required.
Best Mask Contest
Residents of all ages are invited to create their best Mardi Gras mask and enter it in the Best Mask Contest. The judging will take place at 2:15 p.m. in front of the Wake Forest Coffee Company, 156 S. White St., during the Mardi Gras Street Festival. Prizes will be awarded in three categories: ages 13 and younger, ages 14-17, and ages 18 and older. Participation is free. Several art studios in downtown Wake Forest will offer mask making workshops during Art After Hours on Friday, Feb. 8.
