Grants Help AWF during Pandemic

ARTS Wake Forest has received two grants from local/state  organizations to assist with operating costs and other expenditures during the pandemic.

In December, AWF received $3284 from the Nonprofit Arts Relief Fund. The $1 million fund was created by the Wake County Board of Commissioners and the United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County to mitigate the impacts of and alleviate operational disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We were honored to receive this one-time income matching grant,” said Mary Petretich, AWF president. “A requirement to receive the Nonprofit Arts Relief Fund was AWF had to raise an equivalent amount from March-December in the form of donations, sponsorships, participation fees, etc., which we did thanks to the greater Wake Forest community.”

Wake County’s support for the Nonprofit Arts Relief Fund came from its $194 million allocation under the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act).

Also in December, AWF was awarded an organization support grant of $4892 by the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, with funding from National Endowment for the Arts. Grant funds will be used to cover operating costs over the coming months.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the North Carolina Arts Council gave Organization Support Grants designed to help non-profit arts organizations remain operational. The goal was to distribute much-needed operating support to keep arts organizations viable and were not intended to fund a specific project.

The AWF Board of Directors is grateful for these grants that will help keep the arts alive in our community.
